Ok maybe not. It's actually a Sun Dog. These are an atmospheric phenomenon that create bright spots of light in the sky horizontal to the sun. For the Wikipedia article, click here.
Ours isn't too bright, but cool none the less.
I think it's an omen of snow to come...
