Hang Onto Something

What is with this wind lately? A few of us ladies here in the office were just wondering why we even bother with our hair anymore. Guess I should go back to the beanies until things settle down!

The wind (along with warm temps) continues to move the runoff along. If you're a webcam follower you've probably noticed some pretty fast progress around the base area. But as we turn the page into May this weekend, we've got another chance of snow. This has been an interesting spring to say the least!

Time Out

Let's all just take a time out for a second today and be thankful for where we live. It's amazing here!

If you don't live here, we'd love to share it with you. Come visit us!

Red Snow

We all know you're not supposed to eat yellow snow...but is red ok? A good rule of thumb is probably to avoid any color besides white.

If you're looking at the webcam and notice the red tint in the snow, that's all that Utah dust from a big windstorm we had a couple weeks ago. The dust layer is really helping with the runoff. Our mountain crew is spending time in the snowcats right now pushing snow off our service road and other key locations. This helps prevent mudslides when the ground gets too saturated.

It'll be an earlier start of summer up here than last year, that's for sure!

Peek-a-Boo

They're baaaack...

Ready for Summer

We've got the itch for summer pretty bad. Everyone is working hard to change the lodge over from a winter to summer setup. The Alpine Trader is completely rearranging everything and bringing in new merchandise every day. The Sunset Grille looks completely different than what you're used to during ski season. The kitchen is gutted right now and getting a nice scrub down, the tables are missing and a dance floor will be going in.

If you've never been here in the summer, the place looks totally different! Bring your Mom up for our big Mother's Day brunch. You have 2 options. Check out all the info here!

Spring Snow

It's at it again! The same storm that just shut down roads in Utah has begun it's assault on Powderhorn. Check out the webcam, it's dumping right now! If you like to hike or skin up for turns, you should plan for it in the next couple days. Looks like we could get up to a foot by Saturday.

Many of you like to keep track of the snowfall each season. I apologize I didn't get those numbers up sooner! Here it is:

December: 74"
January: 31"
February: 40"
March: 51"

Quite the difference from last year where we totalled 340 inches! We'll take all the snow we get though. We hope everyone snagged at least one memorable powder day.

Nice Digs

We had a manager's meeting today at the Hilltop House in Mesa. What an incredible facility! Having never been there, I was shocked at how cool this place is. Powderhorn is now the reservation center for the Hilltop House (a division of Partners) so if you're interested in booking it, call us!

Click here for pictures, rates and phone number. It's perfect for meetings, retreats, family reunions, team building (there's a ropes course) or just a quick group getaway. The places sleeps 8 people!

Technology

Love it, hate it...right now let's just say we're struggling with it. That's the beauty of working in the mountains though! The webcam is back up and running. But we haven't been able to receive emails for a WEEK now. So if you've sent in a photo for the Grow Your Goggle Tan Contest, I'm sure it's great but we haven't even seen it yet. As soon as it's back up and running...and we can tackle the 6,000 emails...I'll get your pictures posted!

Let's See 'Em

The end of the season got away from us a little but we haven't forgotten about the Grow Your Goggle Tan Contest! Time to send in your picture. Just snap a photo of your beautiful raccoon eyes and email it to ski@powderhorn.com.

We'll post them and our staff will vote on the best one. Winner gets a Plus Card for next season (which includes $7 off lift tickets, a week of free skiing and 5th days free).

We're all neck deep in numbers right now. It's that time of year where we run a bajillion reports so we can begin planning for next season. That's right, we're already thinking winter again.

SlushSprocket Video

Here's the video of the 3rd Annual SlushSprocket Bike Race. The race went fast so the video is only about 30 seconds...man those guys were flying! And we're happy to report there were no casualties.

Keep Making Turns

There's some great skiing to be had still and our lifts being closed shouldn't stop you! You're welcome to hike anywhere on the mountain anytime. Snowmobiles are not allowed however. But many people skin or snowshoe up Bill's Run or Tenderfoot to hit the jackpot on guaranteed fresh tracks. You can also ski across on the West Bench trail from Mesa Lakes. Just make sure you have a shuttle set up.

And if you're a season pass holder, make sure you use up those free days at Crested Butte and Monarch before they close!

Side note: The SlushSprocket video should be up later today along with pictures.
