Skiing Incognito

It's that time of year for skiing in your favorite "throwback" or "gaper" gear, costumes, or anything fun really! Why do we do this as skiers and riders? Well we're fun people and warm mountain temperatures certainly encourage this behavior.

If you haven't already, start planning your costume or favorite outfit for closing weekend! There are no prizes or awards, just lots of laughing. It also makes lift rides more fun when you see a gorilla skiing below you.

Here are some examples we've seen in the past:

How to Spring Ski at Powderhorn

Sorry, I have some not-so-exciting news: only 12 days left in the season at Powderhorn. I don't mean to depress you, it just means we should all be getting in as many turns as possible these next 12 days!

With 14" in the last week, the mountain is refreshed and skiing very nicely. Here are some suggestions on how to take on the mountain for perfect spring runs:

Morning
Head to the West End where the sun shines first. If it's a powder day, this is definitely the place to be with a huge variety of options- the glades, Mudslide, Sweet Misery or Bear Claw to name a few.

Afternoon
The shift in lift hours allow for really fun skiing in the afternoons. If you like carving, the groomed runs have been perfect between 1-4pm each day. Bill's Run, Redeye and Tenderfoot are among a few that are groomed regularly and perfect for big turns.

The terrain parks are also softened up by then and great for all ability levels. Link them all together for top to bottom park fun with some carving and side jibs along the way.

Last Run
I recommend hitting Wonderbump on your final run if skiing until 5pm. It'll still have sun on it and the views are amazing.

Apres
See you on the deck!

Deal
Do it all without selling a kidney. We just launched the 4 for $100 package. Grab some friends/family and spring ski for $25 apiece. Nice!

The Mad Dog Zombie

This is by far the creepiest thing I've ever seen while skiing. Someone had some fun with Dummy Jump leftovers in Mad Dog Glade.

Pow-Pow-Powder Day!

It was rainy in the valley, and Powderhorn was the place to be today! Between 1pm yesterday and 1pm today Mother Nature so kindly covered our favorite winter hangout with 16 inches of fresh POW! Our base is at 67 inches now, and the weather man is calling for sunny skies tomorrow! There may be some fresh tracks to be had in your favorite stashes on a bluebird Wednesday, tomorrow. Come get it while its fluffy! Keep up the good snow dances!

Top 10 reasons why spring skiing is awesome

I'm not really sure how it got here this fast, but it's already March! If you've been skiing for any amount of time, you know that spring skiing is awesome. Here is a list of all the great things about spring skiing (updated from last year's top 10).

Top 10 Reasons Why Spring Skiing is Awesome:

1. Goggle tans are good conversation starters.

2. You can ditch the puffy coat and ride in a hoodie...or Starter jacket. Whatever you prefer.

3. Goofy events such as the Pond Skim and Spring Snow Bar.

4. That soft, corn snow is fun to carve.

5. Beers on the deck.

6. Lots of deals such as Fill a Quad and Savor the Season. Check out the full list here.

7. People start randomly wearing throwback outfits like neon one piece suits.

8. You can go skiing and put off spring cleaning.

9. Spring lift hours begin March 14th. 10am-5pm for maximum sun time!

10. Some of our best snow comes during March. Watch the forecast so you can get all the powder your little legs can handle.
