First Snow?

Could our first snow of the season come tonight? Let's hope so! There's a 60% chance of snow tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. The high tomorrow is only 35, should probably stop wearing Chacos...

We'll post updates and pictures (if it snows) here tomorrow plus you can get real-time updates by following us on Twitter.

Time to snow dance! What's the best song for a snow dance?

Color Sunday Pics

Thanks to everyone who came out for Color Sunday! As always, it was a great way to celebrate the beginning of fall...or for most of us, the beginning of "pre-season." It was nice to see the place packed again.

I snagged a few when I got to take my very own lift ride

Color Progress

The colors are changing much more now in perfect time for THE Color Sunday. Our lift cranks up at 10am and closes at 3pm. Just so you know, its a 56 minute ride so we'll probably stop selling lift tickets between 2-2:30 in order to get everyone off the lift before it gets late. Did you know even though there's no snow on the ground we still have to staff Ski Patrol? And they still have to sweep the mountain after the lift closes! Safety first.

Also an important thing to know- you MUST be able to load and unload the lift on your own. The lift does not stop for you to get on and off. Young kids cannot ride the lift unless they can walk on and off the lift themselves.

We're in progress of changing all the signage around the resort to the new logo. When we took the old "knees and skis" off one of the entrance signs, we found an even older logo!

It's Coming

Winter is making it's way to us...slowly, but surely. There's a slight chance (20%) of snow showers on Monday and Monday night. Even though it's small, it's exciting! The first snow of the season, however minuscule, still makes us giddy. It starts the pre-season rituals of watching ski & snowboard movies, shopping for gear, and telling stories of last year.

Does anyone esle ever put on all their gear at home just to wear it? If not, then me either....never.

Skiers' Union Cafe & Bar

Big announcement today...the Wildewood Restaurant will now be the Skiers' Union Cafe & Bar! This "five star dive food" restaurant originated in Telluride's Mountain Village and has since extended to Ridgway, Montrose and now, Powderhorn.

Here's an article from the Telluride Watch when they opened the Ridgway cafe. It will give you an idea of what the cafe's atmosphere and menu.

The whole Powderhorn team is excited to have them on board. We're dieing to eat there already and have requested a "samples day." Pretty please Seth?

The Real Maverick

Our mascot, Maverick, has just met his match....this guy is definitely the real thing! Our mountain crew spotted him hanging out in the aspens this morning with the family. Some of the pictures are grainy because, well, it's not smart to get close enough to pet a moose.

Summer is Dead

Just saw this cute post and picture over at Colorado Ski Country's blog...

Color Time

Temperatures need to start getting just a little cooler to really kick-off the changing of the colors. But we are seeing some yellow start to tint the mountain and the oak brush is changing so...we're close! Colors mean Color Sundays and lift rides and fall....and colder temperatures...and gear shopping...and ski movie watching...and finally, WINTER!

Ok getting ahead of ourselves a little maybe. But we're in full winter mode now. The entire winter events schedule has been laid out and we'll probably even add to it. We also have some cool ideas for Guest Appreciation Day and Men's & Women's days...more on that later.

Otherwise our next big thing on the To Do list is get ready for Color Sundays- September 20 & 27. If you're going to the Colorado Mtn. Winefest on Saturday the 19th, save your wristband for a FREE lift ride on the 20th!

Mesa State Passes

We're at Mesa State right now selling season passes to starving students for just $275. All you need is a valid MavCard so if this is you, stop by tomorrow. Our booth is right outside Monument Hall and we'll be here from 10am-2pm tomorrow (Wednesday) then again on the 15th.

A girl actually purchased her pass today while eating a cup of Kraft Easy Mac & Cheese. Ahhh college. Priceless.

Sniagrab

Did you know 'sniagrab' is 'bargains' spelled backwards? That's the name of one of the biggest ski & snowboard sales of the pre-season. This Saturday the Sniagrab sale kicks off at Sports Authority and we'll be there. You can score huge deals on all your gear AND get your season pass photo out of the way. Our crew will be there 10am-4pm snapping photos so make sure to brush your hair!

Technology Dependence

The beauty of working in the mountains also means that power doesn't always make it all the way up the line to your office. We have no email or internet today...and this also explains why the webcam isn't refreshing with new images. It's a difficult reality when you realize your entire job relies on the use of email and the internet. The marketing department is incredibly useless today, so we had to leave the mountain and plug in at home. Too many hours without technology makes us start to panic.

It's pretty sad.

In a Haze

Wow California is really messing up our lovely view up here! It's amazing that the smoke from the fires out there has made it so hazy around here. One of our friends on Twitter put it like this: Grand Junction is the filter of California's Marlboro. Yes indeed. We've lost our amazing view of the valley. I'm thinking of getting an oxygen tank to puff on regularly until this is over. Let's hope some wind kicks up and blows this stuff outta here soon!

Thanks to all who have purchased a pass with us! Think fall!
